Solo singer and last year's The X-Factor contestant, Joelle, has just brought out her first single, Save Me (which has reached no less than number 25 on iTunes since its release on Monday!). So, what better time to talk through the hair and makeup that gets her by on long days and nights in the studio, at events and even her off-duty beauty routine?

What are your top five, must-have beauty products?

“If I had to rush and leave the house from the shower, my survival beauty kit would be my Lady Speed Stick Deodorant, Youngblood Eyebrow Pencil, Dove Tinted Moisturiser, bronzer and papaw ointment. I would choose the deodorant because I always need to feel fresh, otherwise I don't feel comfortable and confident. The eyebrow filler is because I feel like if my eyebrows are done, then life is going to be okay! The tinted moisturiser just has a light coverage with SPF15, so you don't feel cake-faced but you also don't feel totally raw and exposed, and bronzer to make me look alive — I am very pale!”

What is your daily beauty routine?

“I wake up, wash my face with You By Sia products like I do the night before, a little Dermalogica moisturiser and depending on the occasion, I wear different makeup coverage, but for out and about, I simply use the tinted moisturiser, Mac Cosmetics mascara and if my eyebrows need waxing I’ll use my eyebrow pencil which somehow makes it less noticeable.
 If I have an event or a meeting, then I use heavier makeup (like Mac Cosmetics or Napoleon Perdis Foundation) because cameras really highlight my skin when they flash!”

What is your biggest beauty secret?

“Nice eyebrows! I am huge on neat eyebrows. I feel like nice eyebrows change a whole entire face and if I could choose between neat, waxed eyebrows or a full face of makeup for the day, I would go the eyebrows!”

What does a typical day for you involve?

“I never have a typical day. Before I started seriously singing as a career, it would be university, friends, food, exercise and more food. Now for example, today I have; morning wake-up, a quick 2km run because I don't have time for the gym (and haven't been in a few days), have a quick shower, breaky, pack my bag to go to Melbourne for a night, reply to my emails that I should have answered before breaky, chase up deadlines because I have no management and have just released my single onto iTunes, review my film clip rough edit and give amendment feedback, fly to Melbourne, attend a meet and greet with supporters, check into my hotel, get changed for an event, then perform afterwards at another event, a lot of sneaky snacks in between such as Pringles on the flight, and of course a yummy dinner and probably a late-night coffee and dessert date before I head to sleep.”

Where do you go to get pampered?

“Rosewater Day Spa in Mortdale. I love it. It’s a local business of mine and I have been going since I was a child. The girls there are so friendly and make you feel welcome every time. They always manage to squeeze me in, too, even though they are terribly busy and always fully booked! My favourite treatment is the facial because of the massage! I want one right now!”

What is your best beauty bargain?

“Probably Rihanna perfume! It is so cheap and you can just have it in your handbag or car for those last minute meetings where your morning spray has faded away (haha, that rhymed!). I picked a couple up for $20 each.”
